A niche by definition is: denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.

My definition is a little different. To me a niche is a “Group of People”. A group of people looking for something specific.

Just think of yourself the last time you did a google search. Weren’t you looking for something specific? Looking for some information about something, an answer to a question, help to make a decision?

Every time you do a search, your looking for some information about a question you have or to buy something. You at that point were a niche. You were part of a group of people that were looking for answers.

So from now on just think of a niche as a group of people. A group that is looking for information, help or a product on a specific item or service.

Now that you know what a Niche is, a niche website is built to market to that group of people. To answer their question, provide them with a service, to help or give information to that “Group of people”.

I mention this statement many time on my site because it is how you have to approach any website that you may want to create. Your focus has to be to help, inform, answer a question.

The most successful online businesses do not try to sell, they try to help. Of course every website has to sell something or generate income some way. But that can’t be your focus, Your focus has to be to provide the information people are looking for.

People who’s focus is selling when they build a website, will not get very far in the online marketing business. A website focused on selling something is like going into a local store and having some pushy sales person follow you around trying to get you to buy.

Think of the last time you were on a site and it seemed that everything they were writing had to do with trying to get you to purchase something. Did you stay on that site for long?

Give the people what they want and you will go far. Provide the help, information, solution to a problem, the answer to how will this make my life better and the sales will come.

Now that you know what a niche is (Group of People), and you know what a niche website is for (Market to that group), what do you want to do with that information? Did you just want the information or do you want to build an online business?

An online business takes time but can provide you with a steady passive income. There are only 2 types of sites online and that is someone selling their own products, or affiliate websites. [Read More]

If you looking to start an online business, there are a couple of questions that you honestly have to ask yourself and answer. Do not start an online business free or otherwise without understanding what it is going to take. Do not add to the online business failure rate

  1. Why? Why do you want to start an online business?
  2. What is your Niche? What group of people do you want to help?
  3. Do you know what it will take to build an online business?
  4. Will you need help building your website?
  5. Do you have a budget or are you wanting to do this with no money?

Why do you want to start an online business? Everyone has their own reason, a vacation home, new car, travel, the kids college, or to escape the rat race. What is your reason?

Your why has to be strong, has to mean something to you. You need to write it down or get a picture that relates to it and paste it on the wall by your workspace.

At times when you get discouraged, and you will along the way, you look at the picture and get back to work. That’s why I said you need to have a strong why.

I remember getting past my 100th day the first time. I was frustrated, asking why am I doing this. Am I wasting my time, this will never work , etc. It’s a tough time to get through when you don’t know what’s around the corner.

But I kept going and it was on my 109th day that I got my first substantial sale. Then it was off to the races. The sales started to come in every day, then multiple sales a day, and now its going strong.

Ideally your niche should be something your passionate about, have interest in or what to learn more about. Everyone has at least one passion, sports, pets, babies, health, cars, boats, skiing, fishing, etc.

Your going to be spending considerable time writing content about and on your niche, so make sure you have an interest with it. You can choose a great niche but if you don’t care about it yourself, it will shin on through all your content.

Your niche also has to be focused. Building a website about health or babies is just too general of a “group of people”.

In order to narrowed down your niche you need to brainstorm a little. I created a page of 3 different niches and how to get them to a focused niche. There is also a list of the top niche’s today. [Read More]

Simply put, it’s going to take Time, Patience and Determination. This is where your strong WHY will be needed most and you’ll be thankful that you have it hanging on the wall.

Building an online business is not easy, is not going to happen overnight or by next week and it will frustrate you at times. But when you get through those times, you will reap the rewards of your labor in the tune of a passive income.

You could be working on your site 3-6 months and see very little activity. Its at this point you will start to doubt yourself and your choice to start an online business.

Take a look at your WHY at these times and remember where you want to get to, then get back to work. If you can get through that 90 day period and have done a good job with your keywords and page titles, the sales will soon follow.

What about getting training?

If you have never had an online business or built a website before, your going to need some training about how to build your online business.

I have reviews on the best known website hosting platforms. At the top of the page labeled website hosting reviews. Some of them offer some training but not a lot except one.

My #1 recommended site is more like a university or college. It has classrooms and live video webinars, live chat that is extremely active 24/7, training for every step of building a website starting with choosing a domain name right to the finishing touches.

Yes, there is a website host that offers a free sign up, 2 websites and hosting free. Now, I will be the first one to tell you that in life nothing is free. Do you agree with me? I could really get into discussing the fact that we pay for everything, but that’s not the subject of this post.

There are a few reasons why or how they can give you the websites and hosting free. First off, the money they make from other sources will take care of your 2 free sites. Plus, they know that if your serious about building your online Niche business, you’ll see the value of what they offer and join the paid membership.

I joined this hosting platform the same way. I joined the free membership, started my free website and it took me all of a day to decide that this was the place for me. After being on 4 other website host along the way, there was no comparison of them to this place.

But that is something you have to decide for yourself. Only you can decide if you like the program or not but I can tell you after my 20+ years online, you will find no better place.

Here is the free sign up

Before putting your domain name idea in, make sure it relates to the business you want to create. It will not be as important as your page titles and your content, but it should reflect your niche.

With this free sign up, you will get training, and access to every part of the hosting platform for a period of 7 day. So learn all you can, go through the lessons, videos, just into the live chat if you need a quick answer to a question or just to say hello and ask them about their experience.

The community there is so experienced and eager to help anyone that needs it. A few times a week the owners are in the chat room talking with members, answering questions, etc.

Don’t look back 6 months or a year from now and say “I should have”. Know that it will take time and if you work at it steady, you will get there and reach your WHY.

Hope this was helpful to you
All the best to your success,
Doug
